Police nab kidnappers during ransom negotiation, rescue victim

The popular saying that one’s iniquity shall find him out one day played out at the weekend in Enugu as some suspected notorious kidnappers with base in Aba, Abia State, were nabbed by operatives of Nkanu West Division of the Nigeria Police, Enugu.

They were rounded up following intelligence of their hideout located at Amakatanga axis of Agbani Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state.

Enugu State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ebere Amaraizu, said the suspects gave their names as Kingsley Nwafor (23) residing at Aba, Abia State; Chukwu Ebuka (28) residing at Aba, Nelson Morris (24) from Owerri, Imo State; and Ikechukwu Onwuabueke (26) residing at Onitsha, Anambra State.

A lady gang member identified as Miriam Oguejiofor, who also resides at Aba, had allegedly prepared the way for the abduction of their victim identified as one Anthony Okeke, 46 years, from St. Michael’s Road Aba. Miriam had allegedly contacted and lured their victim to Agbani in Enugu with details of business a venture to be executed by him.

According to Amaraizu, it was further gathered when the victim got to Agbani, the suspects surfaced and pretending to be business associates working with Miriam, allegedly took him to their hideout located inside a lodge at Amakatanga axis of Agbani where they kept him naked and commenced demand of N10 million from the victim’s relations, which they later reduced to N5 million.

Police operatives acting on intelligence report swooped on them at the said hideout in the early hours of Saturday and rescued the victim unhurt without payment of any ransom.

The suspects are currently helping the police in their investigations.
