The South-East Governors’ Forum Chairman and Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Umahi, has revealed how he was betrayed by the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Sonni Ogbuoji.

Umahi made this known while addressing a mammoth crowd at a rally which held at Agbaji community in Ezza North Local Government Area of the state.

Recall that Umahi and Ogbuoji had been very close friends since 2015, when both of them united against former Governor Martin Elechi to hand over power to Ebonyi South zone of the state.

He stated that the APC gubernatorial candidate lacked the capacity to rule the state, stressing that Ogbuoji has never served anybody, and as such, cannot be served by another person.

“Any person that did not serve can never be served by another.

“By not serving is minus hundred. He has not started. When Ogbuoji betrayed us, I knelt down and raised my two hands up and said, ‘Father in the name of Jesus Christ, betrayal will follow this man’. And that is what is happening.

“Everywhere he (Ogbuoji) goes, betrayal will follow him all the days of his life. I command 60 per cent of his followers and they are working for me, and that is the product of betrayal.”

The Governor also called on all PDP supporters in the state never to betray the party, especially during voting in the forthcoming elections in the state. “There should be no betrayal in our voting,” he urged party faithful.

Earlier in his remarks, the former Governor of the State, Senator Sam Egwu, warned members of the APC in Ebonyi to stop provoking the PDP and Governor Umahi into violence.

Egwu, who is the Senator representing Ebonyi North senatorial zone, further accused APC of destroying billboards and posters belonging to the candidates of PDP, which, according to him, was an action aimed at provoking the state government into fight and violence.

He noted that Ebonyi State is known for peace and progress and no one should stir up crisis that would result into killing of innocent people and destruction of properties.

He said: “Posters will not win election. Go and do your campaign. Go and convince people and stop causing trouble, because you are only trying to provoke PDP people.

“The PDP is doing campaign and they are peaceful. This is my plea to APC people. Please do your campaign and stop fighting people.

“Ebonyi State is known for peace. Ebonyi is known for progress. Election is not all about fighting and killing or oppressing people anyhow. And if there are any PDP people that are doing that, I want to appeal that we all sheath our sword. And election should be done the way it should be done. This is our prayer and I believe that God has answered our prayers,” he stated.

In a swift reaction, Senator Ogbuoji, who spoke through his media aide, denied knowledge of an attempt by his supporters to destroy billboards or posters that belong to candidates of PDP in the State.
