Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO) has chided the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for suspending its presidential campaign for 72 hours in protest of Justice Walter Onnoghen suspension from office as Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), saying the party should have quit the 2019 elections completely rather than “the hypocrisy of just suspending the electioneering process.”

Berating the party for its decision, BCO said that such action is untenable.

Council, Prince Uche Secondus, had in a statement he personally issued on Saturday noted that the suspension of the party’s campaign was in solidarity with Nigerians in the party’s collective rejection of the assault against the nation’s democratic order.

But chiding the PDP for taking the decision, the BCO said by suspending its campaign, the PDP has shown that it has nothing to campaign with in terms of viable manifesto and constructive programmes to sell to Nigerians.

BCO, in a statement by its Director of Communication and Strategic Planning, Mallam Gidado Ibrahim said, “the PDP ought not to have suspend its campaign; it would have quit the 2019 elections completely. Why are they not talking about the subject of discussion, which is corruption and deceit? Is the party trying to say if anybody in a civilised country like Nigeria is found guilty of corruption,  even the President, he should not be jailed?

“The reason for suspension of a party’s campaign is quite untenable. They could express solidarity with the suspended CJN over his alleged dastardly act, but suspending their campaign is taking partisanship in issues of governance too far.

“That is exactly what has happened in this case; trying to knock out the truth with falsehood. Or is the PDP petrified that its hope of using corrupt judicial officials has suffered a major setback? PDP has thrown in the towel. Out of cash, facing humiliating defeat, the only option is to make a cowardly exit from the contest in the name of protesting the CJN’s suspension.”

Urging the party to stop labouring under a delusion, the BCO said Nigerians have woken up to the bitter reality that the PDP is a dead party that can never change.

BCO said: “Corruption will always support corruption. Why should we be surprised? This could be a clear indication that in the old order, the judiciary may have been working for the PDP. All their Dubai plots have failed. Their next line of action is to use the President’s anti-corruption war against him, but they will still fail. This is politics.

“This explains why some past leaders produced by the party have been inundating the public with unsolicited letters containing unfounded allegations against the President just to undermine his effort to sanitise the Nigerian governance system.

“Is the CJN a card-carrying member of the PDP? Why this concerns and support from PDP? This is one of the reasons Nigerians should never trust the PDP for coming out openly in support of corruption. One will even start to wonder what else do the party want again when the country has not even fully recovered from its 16 years of merciless looting. This is a very sad moment indeed, may God save this country Nigeria.”
