The shape of the new management of the Nigerian Police has started emerging, less than 24 hours after the appointment of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Suleiman Abba as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP) by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Investigations by News Express showed that the Police Service Commission (PSC) has concluded arrangements to promote six AIGs to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) so as to constitute a new Management Team for the Force following the mass retirement of DIGs as a result of Abba’s appointment as IGP.

Impeccable sources last night informed News Express that AIGs Dan’azumi Doma, Solomon Arase, Bala Nasarawa, Christopher Dega, Saliu Argungu Ashimu and Mamman Ibrahim Tsafe would be promoted to the DIG rank and constituted into the Police Management to work with Abba.

The Police Management Team is usually comprised of seven DIGs, meaning that DIG Isa Gana, who is a course mate of the new IGP and is scheduled to retire with him in 2019, may survive the purge.

It would be recalled that News Express had in an exclusive story published yesterday afternoon reported the mass retirement of DIGs following Abba’s appointment as they cannot serve under their junior.

According to the story entitled ‘Breaking News: Suleiman Abba survives intrigues, emerges new IGP’, “The appointment of Abba effectively ended the careers of all the Deputy Inspectors General of Police.” The story reported how members of the Police Management Team reported for work at the Louis Edet House in Abuja and “went home from the office without flags this morning, indicating that their careers have come to an end.”
