Nine persons lost their lives in Friday’s accident involving members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State rather than 30 reported by some news outlets.

Bisi Kazeem, Corps Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), told News Express that the casualty rate was not anything near what was reported in some papers.

The accident, he said happened “during 1325hrs at Oginebe along Otukpo-Adoka route. The vehicles involved were 2 (Toyota Hiace and Toyota Sienna with no registration number). People involved were 20 (18M, 2F), out of which nine died: 8M, 1F, and 11 injured (10M, 1F).”

News Express reports that the PDP members were travelling for the senatorial campaign flag-off of former Interior Minister Abba Moro when they got involved in the ghastly accident suspected to have been caused by dangerous driving. Mr. Moro promptly postponed the campaign flag-off upon learning of the accident.
