A large crowd of members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition Accord Party on Thursday declared for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and endorsed the Lagos governorship candidate of the party, Mr. Jimi Agbaje.

Speaking at an elaborate ceremony at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, leaders of the defectors said they were ready to work with Agbaje to unseat APC in the state.

Agbaje’s Campaign Spokesperson Modupe Ogunbayo put the number of defectors at over 20,000, saying that they have pledged “to actively work for the realisation of the gubernatorial ambition of Mr. Jimi Agbaje.”

A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report said that in his speech at the occasion, the governorship candidate of Accord, Joseph Beckley, said he decided to concede to Agbaje in the general interest of the state.

Agbaje, in his remarks, thanked the party for the endorsement.

He said it was a sign that the state was ready for a change of leadership.

“Enough of Baba Sope. Enough of Eko sun lo. It is time to free Lagosians. And for those on the other side, it is not too late to join this moving train,”Agbaje said.
