2 in police net for rape, murder of 35-year-old woman in Anambra

Two men, Emeka Okoronji, 24 and his age mate, Umezinwa are currently cooling off in police net over alleged murder of a 35-year old woman in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The deceased was said to have been lured by the suspects to a hotel located in the commercial city of Onitsha where they both had carnal knowledge of her before killing her.

The body of the deceased was however later found at a roundabout in the commercial city, apparently dumped by one of the staff of the hotel.

Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, said five persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.

He said: “Following intelligence report, police detectives attached to the Central Police Station Onitsha, arrested Okoronji Emeka, aged 24 years of No 16 Park Lane and Umezinwa Val, also aged 24 years of No 110 Agulu Avenue Nkpor Agu respectively.

“Suspects had on December 05, 2018 lured one Ms Gold Gift aged 35 years into a hotel and killed her after having unlawful carnal knowledge with her.

“Consequently, three of the hotel staff, including the manager, one Mr Ekene Gabriel, aged 30 years of Onitsha; the barman, one Tom Bishop Emmanuel, aged 25 years; and the gateman, one Arume Ifeanyi Godwin, aged 27 years were also arrested.”

According to Mohammed, preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was later taken by a staff member of the hotel and dumped at BSMC roundabout, Onitsha without alerting the police.

He said the case was under investigation adding that the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution on completion of investigation.
