Some of the workers in the National Assembly have told News Express that the strike embarked upon by the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) was planned to coincide with the 2019 Budget Presentation scheduled for Wednesday so as to have a greater and damning effect.
The National Assembly workers began a four-day warning strike on Monday, shutting down all the gates leading to the two chambers.
They are demanding for the payment of their salary arrears, allowances and other welfare packages.
President Muhammadu Buhari is due to present the 2019 Appropriate Bill to a joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday.
PASAN through a Dec. 14 statement by its Chairman, Mr Musa Muhammad, had issued the notice for the warning strike, expected to run till Thursday.
The striking workers yesterday also paralysed electricity and water supply to the parliament and administrative buildings in the complex, amid solidarity songs.
