Peter Obi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Yemi Osinbajo of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Umma Getso of the Young Progressives Party (YPP); Ganiyu Galadima of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN); and Khadijah Abdullahi-Iya of the Alliance For New Nigeria (ANN) on Friday night slugged it out in the Vice Presidential debates put together by Nigeria Elections Debate Group (NEDG) and the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON).
An independently administered multi-stage process led to the selection of five political parties that featured in the debate held from 7:00 p.m. to about 9:45 p.m. at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.
All the candidates gave their perspectives on the country’s problems and spoke of the plans of their various parties to tackle the problems if given the mandate by Nigerians during the 2019 polls.
Going by their spontaneous reaction of the audience during the debate, Mr. Obi appeared to have impressed the most, followed by Prof. Osinbajo.
Moderated by veteran journalist and broadcaster Imoni Amarere, the debate was concluded with the presentation of certificates to the candidates, followed by a group photograph.
The Presidential Debate by candidates of the five selected parties has been scheduled to take place at the same venue on January 19, 2019.
