Ustaz Yunus, General Manager of New Democrat, who was assassinated last night in his Kaduna residence in North-West Nigeria, was only about six months on the job, News Express has learnt.
He joined Kaduna-based weekly newspaper owned by Senator Mukhtar Aruwa around December shortly after being laid off by the now-privatised Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in neighbouring Kano State, a close family source and former colleagues at PHCN said. Late Yunus was sad to have worked in the admin department of PHCN in Kano before his disengagement during the first batch of the rationalisation exercise of late 2013.
“He joined us in the New Democrat around the same period he was disengaged from PHCN,” one of the newspaper’s workers said.
As reported early this morning by News Express, Yunus was killed around 7:45 p.m. by gunmen who stormed his Ungwan Dosa. His killers vanished without taking away even a pin.
“We suspect a political undertone to his killing because the killers did not take anything from the house. They just stormed the house, killed him and disappear,” a member of staff New Democrat said.
Police spokesperson, SP Aminu Lawal, confirmed the incident, saying that investigation has already commenced into the killing.
