A group of local hunters has helped another 32 women to escape from Boko Haram’s camps in Sambisa Forest, Borno State, according to a report in one of Nigeria’s best-selling dailies.

This is coming barely three days after 63 women and girls escaped from Boko Haram during a fierce battle between the insurgents and Nigerian troops.

The 32 latest escapees “were helped by hunters to flee the insurgents’ camps,” reports Daily Sun. It quotes a military source as saying: “All 32 escapees and the hunters who helped them to escape are currently with the soldiers.”

The paper says it gathered that the escapees were brought to the military camp by the hunters late Tuesday night.

The development is yet to be confirmed by the military of the Borno State Government.

Over 200 schoolgirls abducted from Chibok community by Boko Haram on April 14 remain in the custody of the terrorist group despite repeated assurances by the Nigerian Government, which claims to be close to rescuing them.

Local hunters who rely on their deep knowledge of the environment and use of traditional charms believed to confer immunity from bullets and machete cuts had earlier in the year sought permission to confront Boko Haram in Sambisa Forest and rescue the girls but were rebuffed by the military.
