yet to be identified soldier reportedly stabbed a man to death at Owerri-Aba community, Ugwunagbo council area, Abia State.

The soldier, suspected to be attached to the 144 Battalion, Asa, Ukwa West council area, had gone to make peace between two persons, who were fighting.

However, the deceased, identified as Harmony, was said to have attacked the soldier and in the ensuing clash, the soldier allegedly stabbed him.

An eyewitness told Vanguard that the deceased, Harmony, who owned a business centre in the area, had gone to a pool betting house to demand for the payment for a game he won.

The source said: “But the proprietor of the pool betting house said he did not post his bet because he failed to pay when he placed the bet. Harmony started beating the owner of the pool house.

“Even when the pool proprietor’s wife, who was the only person around tried to intervene and help save her husband, Harmony was too violent.

“The soldier, who was passing intervened, but Harmony also engaged the soldier in a fight and they fell into a gutter. As they fell, the soldier stabbed him on the neck and took to his heels; Harmony pursued him but collapsed because he lost too much blood.”

Sympathisers were said to have made effort to take him to the hospital, but he died due to loss of blood.

When Vanguard visited the community, it was discovered that more soldiers had been brought to the military unit located in the area.

Contacted, Army Public Relations Officer, the 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Major Oyegoke Gbadamosi, said he is not aware of the incident. However, a soldier in one of the military units in the city confirmed the incident but gave no details.
