The Progressives People’s Alliance (PPA) governorship candidate in the 2013 governorship election in Anambra State, Mr. Godwin Ezeemo, has lauded the statesmanship exhibited by the Governor-elect of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose, describing him as an enigma who rallied his people for electoral success. He also commended the incumbent governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, for accepting defeat in last month’s election and his wisdom for not derailing the wishes of the people by heading to the tribunal.
In a statement made available to journalists in Awka yesterday, Ezeemo urged Anambra people to emulate the virtues of the contenders in the Ekiti governorship race who despite losing accepted defeat and ignored all entreaties to go to the tribunal.
He frowned at the situation in Anambra State where those defeated during the governorship ballot have continued to drag Governor Willie Obiano to court even when the tribunal has given its verdict in his favour.
The PPA leader in the state further called on all political contenders to always bear in mind that everybody must not be Governor or senator before contributing to the development of his home state.
He, however, appealed to Governor Obiano to be magnanimous in victory by harnessing the strengths of all his opponents in the said election in the best way he could to enable him succeed better since, according to him, Anambra is a difficult state to govern.
Ezeemo, who is the sole builder of the over N300m Anambra State NUJ Press Center, also commended the governor and his wife, Chief (Mrs.) Ebele Obiano, for their giant strides during Obiano’s first 100 days in office.
Baring his mind on the state of security in the state, Ezeemo charged Governor Obiano to consolidate on his gains as any relapse would be disastrous for the citizenry. He commended his blueprint with focus on creating jobs for the teeming unemployed youths in the state, especially in agriculture and aquaculture.
Ezeemo said: “Obiano and wife have done well in their 100 days in office but I believe that they would do better by tapping from the strengths of their opponents in the election by considering them in his plans for the greater benefit of the state.
“My prayer is for him to unify everybody and bring us all together for his own good like Fayose is doing in Ekiti with his contenders Fayemi and Bamidele. That is what Obiano should do here in Anambra to carry everybody along. He should be magnanimous in victory to be able to appease his contenders.
“But I am not in support of these people going to court against the governor having declared him winner and the tribunal upheld his victory, they should support him in building a great and viable state and shun tendencies of unnecessary distractions for the governor.
“Now that the tribunal has given him victory, they should stop further appeal and embrace his victory for the peace and development of the state. That is my take.
“The governor should not relapse on his achievements on security because any little slumber would be disastrous for the citizenry in the state. He should consolidate on his gains on security to make Anambra industrialists’ destination. After that, he should afterwards, in a short while, take off the army of unemployed from the streets. He has to pursue his four pillars and its other enablers to ensure that lives and properties are secured in the state and youths busy too.”
