A lecturer in the Agriculture Department of College of Education, Umunze, whose name was given as Mrs Ogichi, was on Saturday kidnapped at Nkwo Market in Umunze, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Information gathered by News Express has it that the lecturer fell into the trap of kidnappers when she went to the market on the community’s traditional market day to buy foodstuff.

The abductors, according to a source, stormed the market, shooting sporadically into the air, making traders and shoppers scamper for safety before they forced the woman into their vehicle.

An eyewitness account from the market said that the lecturer had driven into the market in her Toyota Camry car to shop when she was accosted by her abductors.

His words: “The woman was abducted at Nkwo Umunze on Saturday. She drove in her Toyota Camry to Nkwo Umunze on Saturday, that day was the traditional market day.

“The gunmen accosted her, shot sporadically into the air and forced her into their vehicle.

“People in the market fled and they took her away, leaving the woman’s car there in the market.”

The Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr Sam Otti, could not be reached at the time of filing this report for his reaction as his phones numbers were not reachable.

In his reaction, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, said that effort was being made to rescue the victim and also arrest the abductors.
