Traders count losses as fire razes polythene factories in Anambra

A workshop cluster of Polythene factories located at Ekene, Awada, Obosi in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State was on Tuesday night gutted by fire. 

It was gathered that the fire which started at about 10:10 pm emanated from an electric spark torching about twenty-two shops. 

Recall that similar incident occurred at the same location sometimes in February of this year. 

According to a statement by State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Haruna Mohammed, preliminary inquiry revealed that several machineries, finished products, raw materials and other properties whose values are yet to be ascertained were destroyed in the inferno. 

The statement reads, "Upon receipt of the distress call, Police Patrol team attached to Awada Division led by the DPO, CSP Tony Adeyi rushed to the scene and cordoned off the Area for rescue mission and to prevent looters from taking advantage of the situation.

 "Fire Service department was contacted but before their arrival, the fire was eventually contained through concerted efforts by residents of the community who rushed to the scene and put off the fire."

 The PPRO said investigation is ongoing to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.
