The Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has resigned, according to a report by Daily Trust quoting unnamed “credible sources”.
The paper noted that Ahmed is the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and is expected to contest against his former boss Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, “who is the likely flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the poll.”
The report quoted a source close to Tambuwal as saying that the deputy governor resigned voluntarily and “we will not hesitate to accept his resignation.”
Ahmed was said to have submitted a copy of his resignation to the state House of Assembly but it was not read on the floor of the house on Tuesday.
