The peaceful atmosphere in Umuna Autonomous community, Orlu local government area of Imo State has been tampered with following the unknown whereabouts of one of her subjects who disappeared naked since 2016 without any trace having allegedly indulged himself in homosexual act.

Due to the development, the community has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, through the Commissioner of Police of the state command over the sudden disappearance of one Mr. Nwangwu Chibueze Kingsley after he was caught in homosexual act by villagers.

A Special Correspondent who has been monitoring the event since 2016 observed that the community has raised alarm of impending calamity in the area if the suspect was not tracked down and brought home to perform some rituals to atone the land before his sacrilegious act turns Umuna community into destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.

In a petition to the Commissioner of Police by Counsel to Umuna Autonomous community, Barrister Onyinye Obiaju with the caption, “Sacrilegious Act, Unlawful Disappearance and Evasion of Legally Constituted Authorities” he maintained that Mr. Nwangwu Chibueze Kingsley was caught by villagers in homosexual acts with some young boys in 2016, and expressed bitterness that the suspect mysteriously escaped from arrest after sighting police officials at the scene.

According to him, after they were caught in the act, a group of youths from Umuna community gave them serious beatings as part of their first instant punishment while awaiting the arrival of police, adding that having committed the act against the traditional norms, the suspect was expected to cleanse the land as the only way to appease the gods, who since started sending messages of impending doom to the community.

Part of the petition reads: “Sir, it is worthy to be pointed out here that homosexualism is an abomination in the village of my clients and whosoever is caught in the act must perform a sacrifice to cleanse the land and appease the gods if not, the land will be bedevilled with all sorts of calamity until that sacrifice is performed.

“Since 2016, when this sacrilege was committed, the suspect, Mr. Nwangwu Chibueze Kingsley, has been on the run and the community has done everything to track him down without success, and hence, this petition.

The community, on the other hand, had taxed parents of the suspect to no end yet they could not produce the suspect.”

The community, however, maintained that in as much as homosexualism is an offence in Nigeria, there was a need for the suspect to be arrested to perform necessary rituals to avert looming calamity in the community before his possible prosecution.

Investigation revealed that the suspect may have disappeared into thin air as a possible way to reduce the level of stigma the act had caused him.

While some villagers pointed out that his escape could be due to fear of traditional punishment and his rumoured rejection by his people as a price to pay to avoid total ostracism from the community.

But our reporter who interviewed some selected indigenes of Umunna community, disclosed that they queried if police had arrested the suspect and dumped him in an unknown sell to languish since 2016, adding that if not, the police should investigate whether the suspect had committed suicide to evade prosecution and get back to the community for next action, expressing annoyance that Umunna indigenes no longer sleep with their two eyes closed over fear that the gods may strike.
