A mechanic workshop located at Amanator Street, Awada Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State was early Friday morning gutted by fire.

The fire started about 2am, touching no fewer than 19 vehicles parked in the workshop, leaving some completely burnt.

Also affected by the inferno is the high tension wire that passes through the area.

It took the concerted effort of the residents of the area to put off the fire.

Confirming the incident, the police spokesman in the state, SP Haruna Mohammed, said that police patrol team attached to Awada Division rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area to prevent hoodlums from taking advantage of the situation to loot.

He said the incident recorded no injury or loss of life adding that EEDC has been contacted to effect necessary repairs on the affected power line.

The PPRO said that the case is under investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Though the immediate cause of the inferno could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report, the owner if the mechanic workshop who News Express gathered is a middle-aged man could not be reached for his reaction.
