The House of Representatives on Wednesday mandated its committees on Healthcare Services, National Orientation, Ethics and Values, to invite the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) over a suspected human flesh recently found in Chinese drugs imported into Nigeria.
Also to appear before the House Panel to verify the authenticity of the claim, are officials of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), National Foods, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON).
The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance by Johnson Agbonayinma (APC, Edo) on “call to investigate the red alert placed by Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA) on human flesh found in Chinese drugs in Nigeria.”
“Note that recently, the Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA) placed Customs, NAFDAC, and SON on a red alert over a Chinese drug made with human flesh and organs smuggled into Nigeria,” Agbonayinma informed the House.
He revealed that SON had confirmed the receipt of a letter sent over the Chinese drugs reported to be made into capsules filled with powdered flesh from dead bodies.
He further expressed concern that the manufacturing of drugs containing human remains constitutes crimes against humanity coupled with attendant health challenges.
Some of the lawmakers took turns to condemn the act, which they described as ‘disturbing.’
They said such drugs could endanger the lives of Nigerians if immediate measures are not taken to stem their influx into the country.
The House unanimously adopted the motion, and mandated relevant agencies to identify the importers of the said drug and their accomplices, and prosecute them appropriately.
