Wife of the late Biafran warlord, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu, has reportedly secured the support of 35 millionaires in her bid to become the Senator for Anambra South.
Ex-governor of Imo State, Dr. Ikedi Ohakim, disclosed this on Tuesday during Mrs. Ojukwu’s expression of interest to run for next year’s senatorial election, which took place at the residence of APGA’s Anambra South Chairman, Chief Titus Anagbogu.
While kneeling to urge other aspiring candidates to step down for Mrs. Ojukwu, Ohakim, who was at the event to show solidarity, said the aspirant is the only one that can speak for Ndigbo at the Senate, and the powers that be, would listen.
He said: “Bianca Ojukwu has double-barrel legacy and identity, and it is the identity of the Igbo man across the globe.”
He stated that he graced the event with 35 millionaires and 250 youths from Imo State to show solidarity and support for Bianca Ojukwu’s ambition.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Ojukwu stressed the need for a paradigm shift in the senatorial representation of Anambra South senatorial zone.
According to her, the zone requires a different type of representation that will showcase what can be done for the people, saying: “We can’t remain where we are. The role of a senator is not only legislative, but also oversight.”
She gave assurance that, if she wins, she would ensure that the rights of Igbos are no longer denied.
While noting that Igbos have suffered, Ojukwu observed that a lot of graduates have engaged in meagre jobs due to lack viable employment, even as she said that Igbo traders have been a tool in the hands of customs officers.
“Igbos are suffering, and that is why we are insisting on a restructured nation.”
The former beauty queen noted that it is in the best interest of the zone that people like her step forward and do something about the situation, or it would seem they are happy with the way things are.
She reiterated the sacrifices made by her late husband when he saw that his people were being shortchanged and massacred.
“Evil prevails because good men do nothing. To sit back and be an armchair critic is not good enough.
“I have been part of the party from the genesis, and have been part of several committees that saw to the sustenance of the party.
“The blood of this party runs in my veins,” she added.
In his speech, a Nigerian-America based medical doctor, Dr. Godwin Maduka, posited that the new Igbo vision demands that Igbos allow people of high capacity who will develop the nation to represent them in the political scene.
He promised to do all within his power to ensure that Ojukwu wins the ticket to represent the zone at the red chambers next year.
