•NUP members protest at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja on August 9, 2018.

Members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) have staged a protest over the unpaid arrears of their entitlements.

The senior citizens took the protest to Federal Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently intervene in the matter.

The protesters, who are largely retirees in the electricity sector, lamented that the non-payment of their arrears has affected their welfare and the operations of the union.

They also asked the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, to be forthright in handling the internal disputes between them and the former leadership of the union.
