Despite the spate of defection rocking the All Progressive Congress (APC) in various parts of the country, the party’s chapter in Anambra State on Monday said that it remains strong without crack.
The state chairman of the party, Mr Emeka Ibe, who made the statement in a goodwill message to Anambra South Senatorial Zone during their stakeholders' meeting and zonal executives of APC at Nnewi, urged party faithful not to relent in membership drive.
The party gave assurance that none of its National Assembly members would defect either to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or any other party, adding that some of the lawmakers in other parties in the state were already making efforts to join the national ruling party.
Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Governorship candidate of the party in the November 18, 2017 governorship election, Mr Dozie Ikedife (jnr.), Hon. Okonkwo Okom, among others, harped on the need for peace, unity and cohesion among the stakeholders in the zone.
The meeting, which was meant to fashion out ways of repositioning the party in the zone towards ensuring success for APC in 2019 general election, saw major stakeholders and leaders of the party in the area brainstorming on the way forward.
While observing that there was serious work to be done, they said that every hand needs to be on deck for the party to win the state for President Muhammadu Buhari and all APC candidates from the zone in the forthcoming general election.
Addressing the stakeholders at the meeting, the party’s Zonal Chairman, Hon. Izuchukwu Okeke promised a level playing ground for all aspirants.
He assured that his Executive and Stakeholders of the zone would liase with both state, Local Government and Ward Executives to ensure that the party primary election in the zone was free and fair so as to have the best and popular candidates emerge.
Though the APC National Auditor, Chief George Muoghalu was not at the meeting, but he was represented by Mr Kenechukwu Udechukwu while one of the Senatorial aspirants, Hon Azuka Okwuosa was represented by Mr Henry Okpala.
Both state and national assembly aspirants used the opportunity of the meeting to formally inform their interest to fly the party's flag in the 2019 general election.
Personalities present at the meeting included, Hon Theo Nnorom, Hon Paul Ezeobi, Hon Theo Egbe, Mr Fabian Onwughslu, Prince Ken Nnabuife.
