Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday endorsed the presidential aspiration of a former Governor of Jigawa State, Dr Sule Lamido, declaring that he is one man who can rule well.
A statement by the Sule Lamido campaign Organisation, endorsed by Mansur Ahmed, the New media aide to Lamido quoted Obasanjo as telling members of the former Governor’s campaign council which met him at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun state that he
believes in the presidential aspiration of Lamido.
The statement by Mansur Ahmed said: “The meeting was part of the consultation with relevant stakeholders, elders, party officials and key political actors in Nigeria across the length and breadth of this nation.”
It quoted Lamido as saying: “I have nothing to tell you about me because you know me more than anybody, I have come to greet you, brief you, seek for your blessings and ask for your fatherly advice.”
The statement quoted Obasanjo as telling the campaign team that Lamido, as a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, “knows the world and knows how to relate with other countries of the world. I was so happy and elated by what I saw in Jigawa State when you became a Governor.”
The statement quoted him further: “Sule I don’t have any doubt about your attributes, your capacity, your courage, your interest about your state and Nigeria at large, Sule you can do it and you can do it well.”
Lamido had recently paid a similar visit to the Former Military Head of state Abdulsalami Abubakar and former Military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.
He had equally previously visited Obasanjo last year as part of his nationwide consultations on his presidential aspiration in 2019.
The statement also indicated that before the visit to Obasanjo, Lamido had met with all the PDP state Governors in their respective states, 36 PDP chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including zonal vice chairmen of the party, Former Speakers Forum, to intimate them of his 2019 aspirations.
According to the statement, Lamido was accompanied on the trip by the Director General of the Campaign, Barr. Musa Elayo, Senator Josephine Anenih, Ambassador Joe Keshi, RTD AIG Kayode Thiorplus, Alhaji Umaru Mai Shadai, and Hon. Rahman Owokoniran and Ogun state party Chairman.
