The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, has hailed the Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal for taking a bold step for democracy by dumping the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Prince Secondus, who was reacting to Wednesday’s announcement by Governor Tambuwal that he was quitting the APC with his supporters said that true democrats can't find a place in APC because of what it represents as an undemocratic Organisation.
The National Chairman who also led leaders of the party on a solidarity visit to Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state in Makurdi on Wednesday commended the governor for standing up for his people.
He berated the APC administration for the illegal attempt to impeach the governor for dumping an irresponsible party in response to the desires of his people.
Prince Secondus condemned the Police siege on the Benue state House of Assembly and warned that the state is in the hand of God and any attempt to impeach the governor would be resisted by the people and God.
A statement from the National Chairman’s Media Office signed by Media Adviser, Ike Abonyi, quotes Prince Secondus as saying that history has a huge space for all the defectors for their sacrifice to save our democracy.
“These defectors are making a bold statement for democracy and their sacrifices must not go unrecognised.
“More and more people will leave the APC because no true democrat would find a home in an undemocratic and dictatorial body.
“APC has shown clearly through their actions and inactions since 2015, that it’s an organisation that is averse to democratic ethos and therefore cannot accommodate lovers of true democracy, rule of law and civil liberty,” Secondus said.
He noted that the fact that the defectors are spread all over the country irrespective of tribe and religion shows that APC has failed woefully even in its attempt to clandestinely whip up geopolitical and religious sentiments.
The PDP Chairman noted that the political realignments across the country and the enthusiasm shown by Nigerians in the happenings in our polity should be a signal to the ruling APC that the time is up as the journey to save our democracy has long begun.
“I urge all good democrats and patriots still in APC to make haste to jump out from an obviously sinking ship,” he said.
The National Chairman finally assured those rejoining the PDP as well as other new comers that the party has been rebranded and repositioned to regain power and deepen our democracy.
