The Federal Government has promised to compensate families of victims of the flood that ravaged communities in Katsina State on Sunday.
Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo, who paid a condolence visit to the state on Tuesday, said government will collaborate with the state and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to compensate the victims.
He arrived at Jibia Local Government Area, where 10 communities were affected in company of the state governor, Bello Masari, on Tuesday.
No fewer than 45 persons were reported killed after a downpour wreaked havoc in the communities.
More than 1,000 houses were also destroyed with over 250 livestock confirmed killed in the heavy rain which started around 11:00 pm on Sunday and lasted till the early hours of Monday
The heavy rain caused the river channels in the affected villages to overflow their banks, sweeping away several vehicles, motorcycles and farmlands, and killing many residents in the process.
The Head of Jibia Local Government Administration, Almustapha Idris, confirmed to Channels Television that 21 persons were buried as at Monday.
He added that authorities from the neighbouring Niger Republic had asked them to come and recover 18 more bodies.
The Governor described the incident as sad, noting that the state will take measures to prevent a recurrence.
