The Nigerian Naval Outpost, Onitsha has commenced a 24-hour patrol along the various waterways and creeks in the state aimed at sustaining the current security network in the state.
In a telephone chat with newsmen yesterday, commander, Onitsha Naval Outpost, Captain K. Mohammed noted that the exercise would cover the entire state including riverine communities, reiterating the commitment of the navy in assisting the police in suppressing criminal activities in the state, just as he called for useful information from residents in assisting other security agencies in curtailing criminal activities in parts of the state.
He said, “The exercise is aimed at forestalling any form of criminal activities by armed groups, especially cult activities that have been on the increase in recent times.” (The Guardian)
