Kaduna State House of Assembly has passed a law banning the operation of commercial motorcycles in some parts of the state.

The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Peter Adamu, who read the law on the floor of the house said the law is to cover Kaduna Township and environs that comprise Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Chikun and Igabi local government areas; Zaria Township that comprises Sabon Gari and Zaria. He said the ban extends to Kafanchan Township in Jama’a LGA, as well as Lere, Birnin Gwari and Giwa LGAs.

“Any person who contravenes the provision of the law shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable upon conviction to a fine not exceeding N10,000 or three months imprisonment or both,” the Deputy Speaker said.

“All Margistrate Courts in the areas designated in the Schedule shall try summarily all offenders arraigned before them and impose such punishment, sanctions and make such Order (including confiscation of the motorcycles) as may be necessary or expended,” he added.
