As the All Progressives Congress (APC) gears up for its national convention in Abuja on Saturday, members of the party in Diaspora have thrown their weight behind the candidature of former Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole as the national chairman of the party, saying his credentials stand out.
Addressing journalists in Awka, the leader of the group, Mrs. Chidinma Onyekwelu, advised delegates to the convention to avoid electing people that would constitute a sort of distraction to President Muhammadu Buhari’s good works.
She described Oshiomhole as a man with vast experience and knowledge, adding that such qualities stand him out as the right person to take up the party and steer it in the right direction.
“Comrade Oshiomhole’s antecedents stand him out among other contestants for the National Chairmanship position, having exhibited the capacity to harmonise divergent views and interest in the party and brought about lasting peace and cohesion among various stakeholders in the party.
“Oshiomhole is very strict on principles which is what the party needs at this crucial time. He will deploy his persuasive powers and negotiating skills in resolving any crisis that may arise within the party,” Onyekwelu stated.
The group which also adopted Dr. Tijiani Aliyu as National Women’s Leader of the party, and called for the retaining of the National Secretary of the Party, Alhaji Mala Buni.
According to them, Buni, apart from being a seasoned administrator with high sense of maturity and understanding, he is a true party man.
While describing him as an uncompromising party man who always stands on the path of truth, justice and due process, the group explained that his pedigree is a perfect match with Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
The group further said: “With Ramatu as the National Woman Leader, Buni as the National Secretary and Oshiomhole at the head of affairs of the party, the sky would be just a starting point for our party.
“We need someone we can call our own and not those who want to get to power as stooges of anti-progressives paymasters.”
