The Nigerian Police has dismissed the rumour making the rounds that Boko Haram terrorists today struck along Lagos – Ibadan Expressway, killing nine policemen and seven civilians.

A police statement said: “There is no Boko Haram attack on this road as currently being circulated. The heavy traffic being witnessed caused due to a fallen Truck with goods at a section of the expressway. Our traffic officers and other relevant agencies are working to clear the road.”

The police reassurance came on the heels of an sms that has one viral, saying: “BREAKING NEWS!!! BREAKING NEWS!!! BREAKING NEWS!!! If you are on the Lagos-Ibadan Xpress Road going towards Ibadan …Pls turn back…18 suspected Boko Haram members with AK47 riffles are on the highway now displaying their skill … 9 policemen and 11 civilians have been confirmed dead just now by the gunmen while trying to stop them from the shooting. Pls rebroadcast to save a life.”

Contrary to the claims, the police has combed the expressway and environs, including with helicopter but found no trace of any such attack.
