A filmmaker, Adefemi Davies on Wednesday said a documentary titled, “Against All Odds”, produced to support an amputee, Miss Adenike Adebayo, to walk freely again has debuted online.
Davies told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that Adebayo’s determination to succeed in life inspired him in making of the documentary.
According to him, the documentary is also created to enlighten the public about the need to help people with such conditions.
“The documentary speaks about the challenges, resilience and fighting spirit of Adebayo, who will not be deterred from pursuing her dreams in spite of her plight.
“We want to tell her story to the world so that concerned people in the society can help her achieve a better life.
“She has suffered physical and mental pain for a long while, and it is time she starts getting something better out of life,” the filmmaker said.
Adebayo, whose two legs were amputated at the age of five, following infection when she was two is currently a Higher National Diploma one student of Banking and Finance, Polytechnic, Ibadan.
He said that the funds realised from the documentary would be used to get prosthetics for the 23-year-old.
Prosthetics is the evaluation, fabrication, and custom fitting of artificial limbs, known as “prostheses.”
Prostheses enhance the function and lifestyle of persons with limb loss.
The filmmaker, however, appealed to orthopaedics, surgeons, physiotherapists and medical foundations to support Adebayo.
Davies said that the success of the documentary in solving a problem would encourage HO3D studios to expand its support to other physically challenged persons in society. (NAN)
