The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Borno Command, has deployed about 1,000 personnel to various worship centres in Maiduguri to assure worshipers of their safety.
The State Commandant of the Corps, Mr Ibrahim Abdullahi, made the disclosure on Saturday in Maiduguri in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said that the team included men of the anti-riot squad, bomb detection and disposal unit, as well as intelligence and detective unit.
He explained that the deployment was to safeguard the populace against suicide bomb attacks, especially during the month of Ramadan.
Abdullahi urged mosque management to always keep to rules during sermons and lectures, to enable the security personnel control overcrowding.
“We also appeal to them to be conscious and monitor the type of people around as well as report any suspicious character to the nearest security unit.
“Also, for those of them that we cannot cover, we are suggesting that while others are praying, others should be securing the place; that way, we can help ourselves to nip in the bud, any dubious plan,” he said. (NAN)
