The two chambers of the National Assembly on Tuesday suspended plenary in honour of two members who passed away during the Easter break.

Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Umar Jibril, member representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, died on March 30, 2018. Shortly thereafter, Senator representing Katsina North, Bukar Mustapha, gave up the ghost on April 4 after a brief illness.

In a brief plenary after the votes and proceedings were adopted, the Leader of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, moved that the remaining items on the Order Paper be stepped down till the next legislative day.

The lawmakers then observed a minute silence for the deceased.

The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, also announced that a valedictory service would be held for the deceased lawmakers on Wednesday (today).

A similar brief procedure was observed for late Jibril in the House of Representatives before plenary was adjourned till today.
