The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has announced that his administration would focus on three priority areas in the implementation of the state policy on education. He listed the priority areas, which he named 3-Pillars on Education, to include infrastructure, pupils and students facility, and teachers welfare.
Obiano made the announcement while speaking at the weekend during a visit on the Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev Dr. Valerian Okeke, at St Kizito Girls Secondary School Umudioka in Dunukofia Local Government Area.
The governor promised that his administration would sustain the collaboration with the church to further uplift functional and qualitative education. He praised the work done by his predecessor, Chief Peter Obi, and the cordial relations he had with the church and various schools, promising to surpass what has been achieved.
Commending the quality of work done on the school buildings, Governor Obiano said: “My administration will not only provide more schools with infrastructure but equally equip them with necessary facilities including power generators and internet facilities as well as functional libraries and laboratories to widen students’ scope of reading and research.”
He explained that his plans for pupils and students include provision of medical facilities for their benefit. He also said that recreational activities and sports facilities would be provided to harness budding talents especially in football. In the same vein, he assured that the welfare of teachers would be adequately addressed.
The governor revealed that his government would adopt the same 3-Pillars approach in the health sector, with attention to health facilities, patients and welfare of doctors. He announced that a committee would soon be set up to take a comprehensive look at the health sector and recommend the best way to achieve success in the priority areas.
Earlier, Archbishop Okeke had described Governor Obiano an epitome of corporate intelligence and a man of honour and integrity, saying that Anambra is on course for brighter and prosperous future under him. The Archbishop explained that the school was renovated and rebuilt with the intervention fund provided by the state government, noting that the facilities have helped in decongesting the crowded schools in the urban areas.
In his brief remarks, Chairman of the occasion, Ichie Oscar Adinu, described Chief Obiano as God-sent to Anambra State.
