Saturday’s Israeli air strikes in Damascus, Syria, targeted Akram Al-Kaabi, the Secretary General of the al-Nujaba Iraqi group, News Express has been informed.

“Confirmation: the Israeli air strikes targeted Akram Al-Kaabi, the secretary general of the al-Nujaba Iraqi group, in the countryside of Damascus, today, while he was in Syria,” al-Nujaba said in a short statement sent to News Express by e-mail on Saturday night.

“There is no confirmed information his situation after the attack,” the statement said.

Israel had said that it inflicted huge damage on Syrian air defences after one of its fighter jets was brought down during a raid over Syria.

A BBC report quoted senior Israeli air force general Tomer Bar as saying that the response was the “most significant attack” of its kind against Syria since the 1982 Lebanon war.

The report quoted Israel as saying that the F-16 jet went down during a mission that followed an Iranian drone launch into Israeli territory.

“The two pilots parachuted to safety before the crash in northern Israel,” the report said.

“Israel says it responded with a second wave of strikes on both Syrian and Iranian military targets operating inside Syria,” the report added.
