National Leader of Biafra Nations Youth League (BNYL), Princewill Obuka has been released from Police custody in Calabar, Cross River State after one week in detention.
Obuka and the Leader of Displaced Bakassi Youths, Linus Essien were arrested along with their members in Ikang, Cameroon border on January 16 following a tip-off. No reason was given for the arrest.
BNYL has been accused of plotting violence in the region following reports linking it to the outbreak of violence in neighbouring Cameroon – which the group denied.
A statement issued on Saturday by BNYL’s Deputy Leader, Ebuta Agbor Takon, however, admitted that the group has links with Cameroonian Anglophone separatist leaders.
