Despite spending N400 million every month to service pensions fund the Delta Sigma government says the amount is hardly enough to tackle the issue of pension in the state.
Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this during his visit to the Indigenous Correspondents Chapel (ICC) in Asaba, the state capital.
Aniagwu added that as the economy improves, the pension fund will increase to settle the issue of pension in the state.
He also emphasised that the state will recognise the need to coexist with other people as Nigerians.
The CPS, however, affirmed that there is no plot of land in Delta for cattle colony proposed by the Federal Government for herdsmen. He said the use of the word, colony, connotes colonisation.
The CPS also revealed that the State Government has resolved to go after contractors who were mobilised for jobs but failed to execute the contracts or abandoned the projects.
Aniagwu assured that government will definitely recover money from recalcitrant contractors including the company handling the Asaba Airport project, ULO Consultants Ltd., which is accused of shortchanging the government by over N5.5 billion.
