The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has appealed to the Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Professor Ibrahim Garba, and the Dean, Student Affairs, Prof. Yahaya Babale, to resolve the students’ accommodation problem in the university.
The students also threatened to relocate their zonal office to the university to ensure the resolution of the problem.
Coordinator of NANS Zone A, Comrade Umar Faruk, in a chat with our correspondent in Abuja on Tuesday, said students in the institution do not have access to their hostels, even after they had paid for it.
He therefore tasked the VC to replace the Dean of Students Affairs with a “productive officer who would be responsible and capable of defending the rights of students of the institution effectively.”
The Students Union leader gave the school authorities a one week ultimatum to look into the matter, threatening that failure to oblige would attract the wrath of his Zone A’s office by relocating to the school premises where the matter can be resolved amicably.
He said: “If this issue is not resolved within the shortest period of time, NANS Zone A will move its Secretariat down to the schools premises. The accommodation must be free to Nigerian Students in the institution.”
