Baze University donates N10m to Niger State, applauds Sani-Bello’s educational policy

Baze University, a privately-owned university based in Abuja, has applauded efforts of Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani-Bello in revamping teacher education in the state.

The University donated N10 million to boost efforts of the state government in that direction.

The donation was contained in a cheque and a covering letter to the Governor personally signed by the Pro-Chancellor, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, dated January 8, 2018.

In the one page letter titled, “Our Support for Teachers Training in Niger State”, the university said the donation was in fulfilment of its promise to support the teachers training programme initiated by Sani-Bello’s administration.

The letter reads in part: “With pleasure and gratitude, I submit herewith our cheque of N10 million in favour of Niger State government to fulfill our earlier promise on the above subject accordingly.”

Disturbed by the fall in teaching standard in public schools in the state and the attendant lack of years of retraining exercise for teachers, Sani-Bello reintroduced the teachers' training programme with the establishment of three colleges (Teachers Professional development Institute), one in each geo-political zone of the state.

The administration, in collaboration with the Cambridge University of United Kingdom, had earlier reviewed the teachers' training curriculum with a view to engaging teachers in refreshers courses.

To this end, a committee headed by Hajiya Dije Bala was set up to midwife the teachers' training programme, which took off with students selected from each of the 274 wards in the state.
