A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Mr. Olawale Rasheed has identified the need for electoral activism in the state in 2018, even as the election time draws near, saying it is a year to reject agents of oppression and embrace forces of liberation.
In a statement made available to News Express, Rasheed stressed that “2018 is a year of extra-ordinary decisions and electoral actions for our inhumanly treated people of Osun State.”
While saying that the people of the state had passed through the worst of governance "dominated by reprehensible abandonment of their human needs and aspirations," he maintained that “our citizens have endured and suffered governmental insensitivity, governance from the shadows, negative disruption of our social sector, reckless financial management of monumental proportion, fiscally stupid tactics and strategies, and a failing reliance on falsehood as a weapon of governance.”
The aspirant added that the citizens are faced with hard choices and have been challenged to remain in servitude or transit into a new era of sustainable governance of all facets of our life.
According to him, “we are called upon to remove the veil and deploy our PVC (permanent voter's card), our electoral thumb, to enthrone a truly pro-people government that places the people first.
“I dare us to make 2018 a year of liberation for the sake of the young ones and incoming generation.
“Positive societal change is possible. The most tyrannical forces eventually succumb to the will of the people; the most repressive clique crashes when the will of the people reigns supreme. Osun cannot be different.”
Explaining further, Rasheed made it clear that the state smelt a desperate desire for a new lease of life as "every junction now has a commander and the people are determined to electorally terminate governance and leadership evil."
He advised that the citizens “must keep that fire burning.”
He further charged: “In 2018 we must never lose sight of the goal – voting for a new governor unaffiliated with subsisting rot”, tasking the people to reject all make-up offers which are poisonous.
“Take the hard road. If we have suffered for close to eight years, let us remain battle hardened till we vote out our oppressors in September.
“I represent the forces of positive change and I long to serve as instrument of change. I believe the new lease of life is possible. With a well thought-out 5-point agenda, we can truly govern from the people, for the people and by the people as Governor of this great state.
“Let us mobilise. Let us be sensitive. Let us deploy. Let us move in the New Year to reward our oppressors with electoral defeat. Let us all become electoral militant – it is possible,” the aspirant added.
