The Anambra State Government has announced the establishment of Anti-Corruption Desks in all ministries, departments and agencies.
The Commissioner for Economic Planning, Budget and Development Partners, Mark Okoye, made the disclosure in Awka during a capacity building workshop for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and MDAs on Open Government Partnership.
He said the essence of the workshop was to bring the parties involved in the Open Government Partnership (OGP) in the state up to speed with the processes and implementation of the initiative.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Emeka Ohuoha, the commissioner explained that OGP was a multilateral initiative aimed at securing strong commitments toward promoting transparency and accountability, fighting corruption, as well as harnessing new technologies to strengthen governance.
Okoye said the state was chosen as one of the four pilot states for the programme due to the strict adherence of the Obiano-led administration to good governance.
The Commissioner noted that government through the assistance of some donor agencies had created the Anti-corruption desks in Ministries such as Water Resources to ensure transparency and accountability in their projects execution. (Daily Trust)
