Senator Ayo Arise, who had represented Ekiti North in the National Assembly, has regained his freedom after spending about six days in the kidnappers’ den.

It was gathered that the former lawmaker breathed the air of freedom on Friday evening unhurt.

But it could not be established whether the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State paid any ransom.

Arise was abducted at about 7:00pm on Sunday between Okene and Lokoja while on his way to Abuja.

His abductors later contacted family members and associates and demanded a ransom of N80 million.

Arise was reportedly dropped at Ibillo town in Edo State.

The story of his release was confirmed by Hon. Funminiyi Afuye, a Commissioner for Information in Ekiti State, who said Arise was released around 8pm on Friday.

Afuye said: “I spoke with him (Arise) after his release and he told me that he was dropped inside the bush in Ibillo after they had trekked long distances.

“He said the kidnappers kept changing locations after he was kidnapped on Sunday so that they won’t be tracked down by security agencies.”

Afuye disclosed that Arise is in good health and thanked Nigerians for their concern while he was in captivity. (Daily Trust)
