Emmerson Mnangagwa was sworn in as President of Zimbabwe on Friday to loud cheers from a packed national stadium in Harare, a Reuters report said.
Mnangagwa, 75, was nominated for president by the ruling ZANU-PF party after Robert Mugabe resigned following an intervention by the military last week.
He was Mugabe’s deputy before being recently ousted in what was widely believed to be a move to pave the way for Mugabe’s wife to succeed the only leader the southern African country knew in all its 37 years of independence.
