The Muslim Council in Anambra State has described the result of last Saturday’s governorship election as victory for the poor masses and death of corruption and godfatherism in the state.

In a statement made available to journalists in Awka by the Secretary General of Anambra State Muslim Council, Alhaji Sani Ejoh, the council said that Governor Willie Obiano and his Deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke’s victory was a result of “good governance and grassroots outlreach.”

The statement reads: “We rate the election as the freest, fairest and most peaceful in the country and give kudos to INEC and the security agencies for a job well done.

“We describe the result as victory for the poor masses and death of corruption and political godfatherism in Anambra State.”

The council assured Obiano of their steadfast prayers and support in the next stage of his consolidation.

It also called on the opposition to rally round the Governor to build a greater Anambra State.

On his part, human rights activist, Obele-Chuka, said the result of the election was a clear statement by the people of the state which according to him was another vote against godfatherism.

His words: “Ndi Anambra have spoken. It was loud. It was clear. They have by their votes put godfatherism to the sword, buried the new and sinister manifestation of godfatherism in Anambra politics.

“It is, indeed,  the best election ever conducted in the State. It attests President Buhari’s commitment that no security agency would be used under his watch to truncate the electoral will of the people. And a further testimony of a people’s belief in the new vista of governance in our state.

“Ndi Anambra deserve commendation for choosing to tag with the Obiano Revolution in a peaceful and credible election. No longer again should any one play God in any sphere of life in our state. Power belongs to God and the people. Not to a former governor. Not to a godfather.

“I have no doubt that Anambra State will not be the same in the next four years under Obiano. With increasing federal revenue we expect more.”
