The President of Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU) in Delta State, High Chief Johnson Opone, has demanded that modular refineries should be built in each state in the Niger Delta region.

He made the when he recently played host to journalists in his home town in Kwale, Delta State.

Opone also pointed out that only N1.2 billion was allocated for the N10 billion Independent Power Plant (IPP) step-down in Ndokwa in the 2018 Budget.

According to him, Agip Oil Company has agreed that the project will be completed and that they will be part of the project.

“Ndokwa generates 110,000 barrels of oil per day for the Nigeria economy. We have to participate in our resources and we need to work together. We don’t need negative opinion, let’s seek for the way forward,” Opone said.

He begged the leaders to grow the economy rather than depend on imported goods. “We only have assembly companies in Nigeria. Our leaders should provide track records to convince our youths.

“The leadership of NNU is out to serve our people not to enrich ourselves, and to   provide the enabling environment for every community in Ndokwa to live in peace,” Opone said.

He advised that relying on government will not yield enough development to the communities, adding that in Delta State, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, cannot do it alone. He also stated that what is “paramount is for youths to be gainfully employed or engaged and I believed that this will help to reduce crime in our state.”
