The Senate has indicated a very strong interest in probing alleged monumental fraud of over $35 million in the power sector.
This followed a point of order raised during the plenary on Thursday by Senator Dino Melaye (APC-Kogi West), who cited Order 42.
Melaye said: “In line with the anti-corruption posture of the chamber, I intend to bring to the attention of the Senate a monumental fraud in the power sector because sometime last year, the Ministry of Power came up with a project called FAST POWER.”
He stressed that the Senate needed to ask questions because there was no appropriation by it for this project and the Ministry had already spent $35 million.
Melaye insisted that the Senate ought to investigate the matter.
The Senate unanimously agreed that a substantive motion on the matter would be taken on another legislative day.
