•Newly appointed SGF, Boss Mustapha

Power is, indeed, sweet. For Mr. Boss Mustapha, this became even more evident on Monday.

Barely hours after his appointment as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) was announced by the Presidency, Mr. Mustapha was the proverbial hot cake as chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) held their caucus meeting last night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

“Shortly before the APC national caucus meeting started, governors were scrambling for handshakes with the newly appointed Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha,” a news flash by the Abuja-based Daily Trust said.

The meeting was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

A report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted APC’s embattled National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, as describing the meeting as “very fantastic”, adding that the party would be stronger after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Tuesday in Abuja.

NAN listed those who attended the meeting to include Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Senator Bola Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande, cabinet ministers and presidential aides.

Governors of Plateau, Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Sokoto, Niger, Kogi, Jigawa, Benue, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Kebbi, Nasarawa as well as deputy governors of Kwara and Yobe states also attended the meeting.

Members of the National Assembly also attended the caucus meeting which lasted for over three hours.

However, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar was conspicuously absent.
