The Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) on Saturday at the All Saints playground, Onitsha kicked off the campaign of its Governorship candidate in the November 18 Anambra State poll, Mr. Godwin Ezeemo.

Speaking at the event, Ezeemo cited crime, especially kidnapping and armed robbery as the main focus of his government if he is voted into power.

He explained that with the state known as the commercial hub of the southeast, it deserved a peaceful and conducive environment.

According to the businessman and philanthropist, he would partner with private investors to set up a power plant for the state to boost commerce and industry.

His words: “Though I appreciate that taxation is one way government can generate revenue, I would end unnecessary levies and taxes on the people of the state.

“I shall put an end to multiple taxation and illegal revenue collection within my first three months in office.

“I shall run a prudent and transparent government that will audit and publish Anambra State government accounts annually.

“I shall partner with other states in the South-East and South South regions to lobby for the opening and maximum utilisation of the Onistha Inland Port and other ports in South South Nigeria.

“I shall make pipe borne water run again, not only in our homes, but in markets and schools.

“I shall focus on security, health, agriculture, power and education from my first day in office.

“In my first six months in office, I shall establish Anambra State.

“I shall reduce the cost of governance drastically by eliminating luxuries and frivolous spending. This is my contract with you.”

Handing the flag of the party to its candidate, the PPA National Chairman, Mr Peter Ahmed described Ezeemo as “Mr Integrity and Honesty.”

He urged PPA members in the state not to despair, adding that PPA victory in the election had been settled.

“Ezeemo deserves the victory. We’re not exaggerating any fact. This man was living comfortably in the United Kingdom before he voluntarily decided to come home to salvage his people and his state.

“Don’t be afraid. Nobody can intimidate us in this election. We’re ready, we’re prepared and we shall win,” Ahmed stated.
