For the first time in history, vehicles drove to Aliebiri community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of oil-rich Bayelsa State yesterday, Sunday, October 15, 2017. They conveyed Governor Seriake Dickson and his entourage, who were on an inspection of the 48-kilometre Sagbama – Ekeremor road project.

Speaking with newsmen at Aliebiri, Dr Agatha Goma, Bayelsa Commissioner for Local Government Administration, applauded Governor Dickson for the pace of work on the road. She said that that driving to Ekeremor by the Governor’s convoy was historic as the area was hitherto accessible only by boat.

Dr Goma described the governor who initiated the ambitious project as a consummate leader whose achievements have opened the coastal settlements to the world by road.

She noted that the progress so far made on the ongoing Sagbama – Ekeremor Section of the Bayelsa East Senatorial Road reaching Aleibiri in Ekeremor LGA will end suffering of residents who endured risky six hours’ boat ride to Yenagoa, the state capital.

Dr. Goma said the commitment of the governor to the completion of the road, which will terminate at Agge – proposed site for a deep sea port – has projected Dickson as a man who has his eyes on history.

The commissioner noted that the road project had remained on engineers’ drawing board for more than 50 years before Dickson came on the scene.

She noted that Dickson has by massive investment on infrastructure like the Sagbama – Ekeremor road shown that he is a true Ijaw patriot whose legacies will remain a reference point for generations to come.

“The Bayelsa West Road is a lifelong aspiration of every true Ijaw man. For more than half a century, we have prayed and desired for this road. His Excellency is indeed a visionary actualiser of dreams. He has made our dream come true,” Goma said.

According to her, road is a key to accelerated development, hence it will open up that section of the state to socio-economic advancement and promote security.

She called on the people of the state to continue to cooperate with the Dickson-led government to ensure the holistic development of the state.
