The performance arts industry in Nigeria has received a boost with the emergence of an exciting dance company, Danceville Inc.

The Benin City-based outfit which offers contemporary dance, Modern Jazz and Hip Hop, recently appeared as the official performers at the Benin University Dental Students Association’s Health Week in South-South Nigeria, giving out performances that highly thrilled the audiences.

With a lush combination of movement, sound, lighting and graphics, Danceville Inc dancers made an absolute impact at the event. No less impressive was the way the choreography troupe offered a look at spirituality and modern society as they performed to gospel songs with throbbing and energetic steps, mirroring the zest and energy of the spread of the spiritual message today.

The brain behind the company is 22-year-old dancer and choreography instructor, Jeremy Akpomera, a student of the University of Benin’s Medicine and Surgery Department. He tells News Express that the vision of Danceville Inc is to “create a community of outstanding dance artistes globally, and accentuate the purity and beauty of dance as an art form, with Jesus Christ as the grand subject.”

Danceville Inc is currently working hard to spread the gospel of dance as a formal art in secondary schools, and to this end they are currently the official choreographers of the cheerleading squad, The Dolphins, of the University Preparatory Secondary School (UPSS), one of the foremost secondary schools in Benin.

Akpomera is relishing the challenge of combining a very demanding academic study as a medical student with his first love, choreography. “I know they are two very tough and different tasks, but the Lord is my strength,” he smiles.
