Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State over the weekend emphasised the need for governments at all levels in the country to train youths in skill acquisition programmes to enable them to be self-employed in future.
The governor was speaking when the Supervising Minister for Education, Barrister Nyesom Wike, paid him a courtesy visit at Governor’s Office, Uyo. He stressed the importance to educate Nigerian children not only in reading but also in writing to enable to realise their self-worth, identifying this as a recipe for national development.
Chief Akpabio used the occasion to congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan for making education a top priority of his administration, and called on Nigerians to appreciate the administration’s transformation agenda in all sectors rather than the media dwelling solely on negative stories.
“I must congratulate the President for making education of the Nigerian child a top priority in his administration. So, Nigerians must always pause for a while to appreciate the transformation agenda of the Federal Government and not dwell solely on negative news by the media,” the governor remarked.
Wike in his remarks explained that he was in the state for the ground-breaking ceremony of the Federal Government’s Universal Basic Education (UBE) Special Vocational School, Ukana in Essien Udim Local Government Area. He applauded Akpabio for imbibing the transformation agenda of President Jonathan through quality education in the state.
